First time here?

Welcome to my blog!

Since you’re joining this blog already in progress, let me catch you up on what you’ve missed so far.

Ahem.

Previously, on Crumbs from the Communion Table…

My name is Justin Lee, and I’m a committed Christian who takes the Bible seriously and wants to improve the church’s terrible reputation. I’m a speaker and writer who tries to address difficult issues from a compassionate, Bible-based, Christ-centered perspective—with some pop culture and humor thrown in for good measure.

That’s mostly what I write about. But then there’s also…

The Gay Thing.

When I was a teenager, I discovered I was gay, which turned my whole world upside down. I believed that God would make me straight if I had enough faith, and when that didn’t happen, I made a startling discovery: We Christians don’t always show the kind of love that we think we’re showing, to gay people or anyone else, and there’s a lot of misinformation on both sides about how to make things right. This interview will answer a lot of your questions about my background.

Today, I run The Gay Christian Network, a nonprofit organization with members on both sides that provides support to people who feel caught in the crossfire. If putting the words “gay” and “Christian” together raises a lot of questions for you, never fear—I do discuss the issue on this blog, and I happily take questions.

My first book is on that subject, and it’s coming out in November 2012. I’m so excited!

A few of my favorite posts.

Since you’re new here, here are a few recommendations I have to get you started.

  • Ask a Gay Christian: Rachel Held Evans’ interview with me.  This isn’t on my blog, but it’s an interview I did on author Rachel Held Evans’ blog that will answer all your main questions about “the gay thing,” who I am, what I believe, and why I call myself a gay Christian. All those burning questions you have? They’re probably already answered here.
  • Trendianity. This post lays the foundation for a lot of what I discuss on the blog. Trendianity is not Christianity! If you only read one post of mine, read this one.
  • “I love you so much that I need to hit you with this Bible. Really, really hard.” And this one shares my perspective on conflict. How do we Christians agree to disagree on an issue where people’s souls are at stake? And why are so many people so reluctant to talk to us?
  • Why Crumbs from the Communion Table? Finally, here’s my response to a reader who wrote to ask about the title of the blog.

That’s just a sampling, but all my posts are available from the homepage or in the archive. And don’t forget to subscribe via email or via Feedburner RSS! Then you’ll get notified of all my new posts as they happen.

Thanks, and make yourself at home! There’s cola in the fridge.

—Justin
